How to Score

Tennis Social League (TSL) โ€“ Scoring

The Tennis Social League uses a CUMULATIVE games-based scoring system.

An EXAMPLE is provided below

Match Structure

  • Each match consists of three full sets.
  • All three sets must be played, even if one pair has already won the first two sets.

Score Submission

  • At the end of each match, players must submit the scores of all three sets to the League Keeper.

Game Accumulation

  • The number of games won in each set is recorded.
  • All games won by a pair are added to a running total (grand tally).
  • This tally continues across all matches in the season.

League Standings & Winner

  • This is not a knockout competition. Every match contributes to the final standings.
  • At the end of the season, the total number of games won by each pair is calculated.
  • The pair with the highest cumulative number of games will be crowned:

๐Ÿ† Champions of the Tennis Social League (TSL) ๐Ÿ†

A runner-up will also be recognised.

Tie-Break Rules (If Required)

  • This rule applies only to final league standings and is not related to standard in-match tennis tie-break rules.
  • In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the League Keeper will request that the relevant pairs arrange a deciding match.
  • The pair achieving the highest number of games in that match will be crowned champions.

Competitive Spirit

  • Every game counts.
  • Even if a pair has lost the first two sets, the third set must still be played competitively.
  • Players are encouraged to dig deep and compete for every game, as each game directly impacts the final standings.

AN EXAMPLE OF SCORING

Pair A vs Pair B play a match consisting of three sets:

  • Set 1: 6โ€“4 (Pair A won)
  • Set 2: 2โ€“6 (Pair B won)
  • Set 3: 6โ€“3 (Pair A won)

Game Totals

  • Pair A: 6 + 2 + 6 = 14 games won
  • Pair B: 4 + 6 + 3 = 13 games won

Outcome

  • Pair A wins the match overall (2 sets to 1),
  • But more importantly for the league:
    • Pair A adds 14 games to their league tally
    • Pair B adds 13 games to their league tally

Key Point

Even though Pair B lost the match, they still gain valuable games toward their overall league score.

This initiative is built to keep players active, motivated, and inspired.

In the Tennis Social League, every match counts – and every game can make the difference.
